Chrome for MACOSX and Linux are now official out of beta. Personally, I’d stay away from google products.. “your only encouraging them” but its noteworthy news all the same.

Diaspora is simply put an idea at the moment, however their mission is to create a social networking architecture that addresses the concerns that Facebook have not been able too and further more knowingly hidden those security concerns.
Diaspora is a fully funded project with some sound ideas.. the question is will it fly? The product would have to be something special in order to begin the transition of 400+ million users shutting down their Facebook accounts and opening Diaspora account. Most of those users belong to a number of groups and networks that they will not so easily give up.

Google are running a secure search engine in beta currently. https://www.google.com allows users to setup a SSL tunnel between the browser and googles search engines so that we may all search in privacy. That is, if your a frequent user of internet cafes you can now be sure that your google queries are kept private… at least until google receives the HTTP GET request
